Clinicians and transfusion lab scientists are invited to a webinar on the NHS genotyping programme for patients with sickle cell, thalassaemia and transfusion dependant rare anaemias at 11.00am to 11.45am on Wednesday 25 October 2023.

This programme is due to open to samples in October. Patients can have their extended blood groups genotyped via a new DNA-based array. The test is being offered to hospitals for free until the end of March 2024.

This webinar is aimed at clinicians and transfusion lab teams and will cover topics such as timelines, pathways, consent, ordering, and receiving results.

The panel will include:

  • Sara Trompeter - Consultant Haematologist and Paediatric Haematologist at University College London NHS Foundation Trust and NHS Blood and Transplant.
  • Anthony Poles - Head of Histocompatability and Immunogenetics Bristol at NHS Blood and Transplant.
  • Sanne Lugthart - Consultant Haematologist at the University Hospitals of Bristol NHS Trust and Chair of the Genotyping Programme Patient Referral and Recruitment Workstream.
  • Andrea Harmer – NHS Blood and Transplant Genomics Programme Director.

The programme is delivered by NHS Blood and Transplant and funded by NHS England.
