On behalf of the British Society for Haematology I would like to thank Professor Finbarr Cotter for his leadership of, and dedication to, the journal over the last 15 years. During the period of his editorship we have seen the British Journal of Haematology, our official journal, further its contribution to the international haematology community. Submissions have increased by over 30% since the start of Professor Cotter's editorship and we have been pleased to welcome submissions from no fewer than 69 countries so far this year. We have been delighted to see the journal's impact factor rise above 5 and for the journal to maintain its position consistently in the top quartile of haematology titles (ISI Journal Citation Reports, 2017)

Professor Cotter always wanted the journal to be a publication that readers would look forward to reading and with downloads of content having grown fourfold the evidence is that they do indeed enjoy reading the journal.

The British Society for Haematology strives to help our members work together to share ideas and knowledge, and to provide them with resources to support their professional development including the guidelines we commission to raise standards of care. By editing the journal Professor Cotter has presided over one of the platforms we have for all of these goals thereby allowing us to support the development of haematology research on a global scale. I would like to wish him well for all of his future endeavours.

Professor Cheng Hock Toh, President – British Society for Haematology
