BSH is pleased to announce a new partnership with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO).
HVO is a non-profit organisation that seeks to improve global health through education of the local health workforce in resource-scarce countries. HVO volunteers build local capacity by empowering health care professionals with knowledge and skills to address the health care needs of their communities.
Professor Imelda Bates, Chair of the BSH Global Haematology SIG commented on the new partnership saying, “This collaboration with HVO provides an exciting new opportunity for the BSH to support haematology colleagues in developing countries through short-term volunteer placements. It will bring haematology professionals together to raise the standards of clinical care and laboratory practice, especially in countries with limited health care resources."
HVO Executive Director Nancy Kelly, MHS, added, “We are delighted to welcome BSH to HVO’s global community. As the burden of non-communicable diseases grows, HVO’s hematology program seeks to expand the knowledge and information available to health workers in resource-scarce countries to identify, treat and, where possible, prevent hematology-related disease. BSH and its members will provide essential education and professional opportunity to hematology care providers around the world.”
