The Education Committee is looking to recruit a new Student Representative. The aim of the Education Committee is to develop and deliver educational events and resources for the BSH. This includes organising training events such as the Basic Haematology and Core Medical Training Days, as well as developing online teaching resources.
The Student Representative appointment is for three years and will involve attending three meetings a year in London. Expenses for attending these meetings will be covered.
Lucas Brammar, Foundation Year One Doctor at Weston General Hospital, and former BSH Student Representative said he felt he played an important role in the organisation representing his undergraduate colleagues.
‘For me the most rewarding aspect of being a representative was being listened to and being given an active role in the committee. I felt able to contribute to all the meetings. Being given the opportunity to contribute to the ASM in 2017 was also a real highlight. I was instantly made welcome by all on the committee and am grateful for the experiences they have given me’, he said.
Ieuan Walker, Academic foundation Doctor at King's College Hospital and another former BSH Student Representative said he found the role very rewarding: ‘Being a student representative was a fantastic experience. I attended meetings in London every 4 months, where I had the chance to contribute to writing the BSH national haematology curriculum for medical students, design national educational days for undergraduates, as well as share my ideas about how we can better deliver educational content.’
During his time as Student Representative, Ieuan had the opportunity to speak at our Annual Scientific Meeting, which he considered a highlight of the appointment, ‘The chance to deliver an oral presentation at such a high level isn't a common occurrence for medical students.”
Ieuan has gone on to sit on our Communications Committee and remains involved in the work of BSH, ‘The chance to be involved in a national committee is a fabulous one, and I would strongly recommend anyone considering the role to apply.’
