The official journal of the British Society for Haematology, British Journal of Haematology, is seeking applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief.
A peer-reviewed, ISI-listed journal, the British Journal of Haematology is an international journal for the publication of original research papers in clinical, laboratory and experimental haematology. It is well-established, having been in publication since 1955. The readership and importance of the journal has grown steadily with the current impact factor standing at 5.67 and a worldwide base of subscribers and authors.
This is an exciting opportunity to continue the development of the journal within the international haematological field.
The successful candidate will be recognised as a leading member of the haematological community and will have an impressive track record as a published author along with senior editorial experience and a strong understanding of the business of publishing a journal. The successful candidate will have experience of the pharmaceutical market serving haematology and will demonstrate a commercial focus. Above all, the successful candidate must be passionate about the British Journal of Haematology and demonstrate a clear vision for its future growth and development.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Broad knowledge of the international haematology field
- The ability to support authors with their publishing objectives
- Sound scientific judgment and willingness to make strong editorial decisions
- Ability to address sensitive matters diplomatically and considerately
- Awareness of trends within knowledge dissemination and openness to new ideas
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The main functions within this role are: strategic development of the journal, maintaining high-quality editorial standards, providing strong and inspiring leadership to the journal’s Editorial Board and appointing new members as required, and journal promotion. Applicants should note that this position requires a weekly commitment of time. The Editor can be based in any international location but would be required to join the British Society for Haematology if not already a member.
This important leadership role will require a significant time commitment and will be recompensed accordingly.
