As the NHS celebrates its 70th anniversary, we in Haematology should be proud of how our integrated clinical and laboratory specialty has constantly innovated to set new standards in patient care. We have also led the NHS in multi-disciplinary team working, peer-reviewed accreditation processes and patient safety measures.
I am keen that BSH builds upon these important foundations and our Board of Trustees met recently to strategize on how our specialty can be central to a changing NHS beyond 70. As a smallish specialty, we must be cognisant and adaptable to what is happening around us. While celebrating the diversity of Haematology, we must be careful not to fragment but remain true to the congruent position that “Haematology is central to the practice of Medicine”.
The 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) will project these themes and I urge you to look out for further announcements in this forum and on the BSH website. Equally, the Glasgow ASM will be positioned to prepare BSH members for our celebratory Diamond Jubilee year in 2020. There is much to be proud of now and into the future!
